Coronavirus is impacting all of our lives.
This crisis is the biggest challenge Samaritans has ever faced.
As you know by now, we have decided to cancel our 2020 Charity Cycling Sportive. In the light of the Covid 19 virus, there wasn’t really any alternative.
Riders who had already registered responded very positively to the announcement and we’d like to thank them for their enormous generosity. Out of the registration fees collected, they have donated over £3500 to us.
This event has, over the three years since we began it, generated well over half of our annual running costs. It costs about £30,000 a year to run our branch with its 140 volunteers. We handle 30,000 contacts a year in a combination of phone calls and emails.
The people who call us are in an emotionally distressed state and, as I am sure you can imagine, the current state of emergency has increased the need for our services. Thankfully, even though we have 40+ volunteers in self isolation, our service has continued, uninterrupted.
Even with the generosity of the cyclist who donated their registration fees, we will be significantly short of funds in 2020, especially if the current situation lasts for a while.
If you’re able to make a donation to help us through this period, we’d be very grateful. Click on the button below which will take you to our page on Virgin Money Giving.
Whether or not you are able to help us with a donation, we look forward to seeing you in 2021, by which time we all hope this crisis has been averted and we are all able to live our lives more normally.
If you or anyone you know is struggling emotionally, please call us on our Freephone number 116123 or email us at email@example.com.
Please stay safe.
